Secret Vision
In the light…I see my future…I see myself walking down the streets of a busy city…No stars above me…Life has become merely an existence…Nature has been completely erased from the face of Earth…The devastating effects of the solar radiation have rendered the outside world impossible to inhabit…All people now live beneath a steel sky…Generators provide oxygen for humankind…Droids tend to our every need…
I am walking down the street…Lights flicker around me…Vehicles rush beside me…I see no people…I look at my watch…It’s the middle of the night…Everyone is already sleeping…Gathering strength for another day of hard work in the hydroponic gardens or the droid factories…
Life has no meaning anymore…People just wake up everyday so that they can go to work, earn money and feed themselves so that they can survive to live another day…There are no children playing in the street…Reproduction is forbidden…Every new citizen of the cities is bred and trained in specialized facilities under strict supervision…
There is a bright side however…There is no hunger…No overpopulation…No unemployment…Everything that we strive to achieve today we have achieved in the future…But at what cost?
Morning comes and I am still wandering the streets of the megapolis known as Earth-01…There are 7 of those spread all over the planet…They house its entire population…People start coming out of the living complexes…They don’t talk…They don’t laugh…They are just walking towards the transports that will take them to their places of work…Soulless…Emotionless…It is as if they are nothing more than the droids that serve them…
The artificial climate system produces rain…Heavy drops start falling over the city…They don’t taste like water…I long to see the sun again…To sit under the night sky full of stars…To walk down the beach and feel the water brushing my feet…
“Oh, God…what have we done?” …
